Carol Smrek is a commercial and residential real estate attorney. She graduated from Fordham University School of Law and is admitted to practice in New York and Connecticut. Carol is a member of the New York State Bar Association.
Carol represent landlords, tenants, purchasers and sellers of commercial and residential properties in a variety of transactions. For ten years, she served as Vice President/Counsel for Acadia Realty Trust, a publicly-traded Real Estate Investment Trust, handling and overseeing commercial real estate transactions for urban redevelopments and regional and national retail tenants. She also addressed other ongoing tenant issues, including common area maintenance disputes, exclusives and use restrictions, termination rights, exercise of options, and defaults.
Prior to joining Acadia, Carol was in-house counsel for Kimco Realty Corporation, also a publicly-traded Real Estate Investment Trust, where she negotiated and drafted retail shopping center leases, amendments, easements and other related documents and also examined title documents, surveys and environmental reports during due diligence for the acquisition of shopping centers. In addition, Carol served as the Director of Lease Administration where she reported directly to the Chief Financial Officer and the Vice President of Management Information Systems, and was the liaison between the legal, leasing, accounting and MIS departments.
